Emerald van't Ruytershof is an exceptionally talented international Grand Prix and 2016 Rio Olympian stallion who has racked up international placings and wins for years.  In 2016 he also became the winner of the Nations Cup in Rotterdam and placed 2nd in the World Cup Final. In June, 2014, Emerald and his rider, Harrie Smolders (aka "The Flying Dutchman"), were 2nd in the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup CSIO5* in Rotterdam and  4th in the Grand Prix Table A at the CSI3* Sint-Katelijne-Waver. The pair was recently back with two clean rounds in January, 2015 in Lier. They are on their way to Wellington, Florida where they will compete for three weeks.

The success story of Emerald and his rider Harrie Smolders started in 2010, when they became reserve champions at the World Championship for young horses in Zangersheide, Emerald was 6 at the time. This was followed by countless victories at the highest level, with wins in 2013 in the Nations Cup in both Aachen and Gijon, in 2015 they won the Nations Cup in Falsterbo and the World Cup leg in Washington… In the World Cup final in Gothenburg of 2016 they became 2nd, after which they participated in the Olympic Games in Rio and won the Nations Cup in Rotterdam. In 2017 there was a win in the Chantilly GP, and a 2nd place in the Versailles GP, and the following year a win in the Bordeaux GP and a 2nd place in the Cannes GP. After his brilliant career, Emerald retired at the beginning of 2019, to fully focus from then on on breeding. Due to his impressive scores, qualities as a stallion and his many successful offspring, Emerald is a top favorite among breeders.

In 2013, Emerald took home victories in the Nations Cups of the CSIO5*s in Aachen and Gijon. He also won the Grand Prix at the CSI3* in Lanaken and CSI2* in Vilamoura and was 2nd in the Grand Prix at the CSI4* in Antwerp and the CSI3* in Vilamoura.

Emerald's sire, Diamant de Semilly, is a son of Le Tot de Semilly, one of the best sires in the world and a famous international jumper. Diamant de Semilly was victorious at CSIO and CSIW shows and his successes include being the 2002 French national champion, as well as a team world champion and placing 9th individually at the 2002 WEG in Jerez, Spain. In 2003, he was a member of the silver medal winning French team at the European Championships. He was also ranked 3rd on the list of top show jumping sires in the world by the WBFSH in 2014.

Emerald's damsire, Carthago Z was a two time Olympian (1996 and 2000) and won the Nations Cup in Aachen, Rotterdam and La Baule, as well as many Grand Prix. Aside from this outstanding career in sport, Carthago was a globally famous sire. In the 2014 Breeding Value Index list from the German Federation, Carthago is listed in the top 1%, and he is listed 36th on the 2014 WBFSH list.

Several international jumpers descend from Emerald's dam line such as Butterfly PS, Nobility PS and Diamanthina van't Ruytershof.

Emerald's offspring have been doing very well in the auctions and in competition. The 7 yr. old Special de Muze just won the young horse jumper division  at ICNN Drachten in the Netherlands, and in August, 2014, Imerald van't Goorhof won the 6 yr. old young jumper final at the Hampton Classic in the US with his rider Cody Auer. Emerald's daughter, Expression, was the top seller at the 2014 Zangersheide Quality Fall Auction for the knock down price of 24,000 Euro. His son, Igor, won the Welcome Stake 1m50 class CSI5* Tryon, NC 2019 and placed 7th at the 1m55 CSI4* in Lexington, KY under rider Jos Verlooy in 2019. This same year Igor helped Team Belgium win the Longines FEI European Championships in Rotterdam and opening up a chance for them to attend the 2020 Tokyo Olympic games.

Igor and Verlooy went on to win the Bronze in the individual ranking. Igor was voted 2019 Belgian Horse of the Year! Igor and Jos qualified for the 2021 Tokyo Olympic games but unfortunately Igor sustained an injury and the two could not compete.
