Know how you will register your foal before you breed! Different registries have different requirements for foals resultant from artificial insemination using frozen semen. All have in common the fact that a foals is registered in the registry with which its dam is approved. The sire of the foal must also be approved by the registry the foal will be registered with. Mares and stallions can be approved by more than one registry, allowing a breeder to produce either a Hanoverian foal or an Oldenburg foal from the same parents, for example. Still, the foal, mare and stallion can only have actual registration papers with one registry.
You will receive an insemination certificate and a copy of the registration and DNA papers of the stallion with the frozen semen, as needed. Again, consult the registry with which you intend to register the foal to determine their requirements. Some registries require the semen broker to file a stallion report, others do not. Some require an insemination certificate signed by the veterinarian or technician who performed the insemination, others do not. Though your semen broker usually understands the requirements of your registry and will fulfill them, it is the breedersresponsibility to be sure all requirements are met in a timely manner. Call the registry before you breed to ascertain their requirements. |
