Contendro I

Contendro I
VIDEO VIDEO
The career of the extraordinary sire Contendro I in a few key words: 1999 Holstein premium stallion, winner of the 2000 Adelheidsdorf stallion performance test, placed in the 2001 Holstein Riding Horse Championships, and was nominated for the Bundeschampionate. His heavy breeding schedule only allowed for sporadic appearances at shows but when he competed, he always took home a ribbon.

His sire, Contender, is one of the world's leading jumper-makers. The life-time earnings of Contender offspring such as the double European Champion, Montender ridden by Marco Kutscher, the two-time Riders Tour winner, Checkmate, and the three-time Derby winner, Collin ridden by Toni Hassmann, were up to 3.9 million Euro by 2006.

Contendro’s dam, Bravo, is also the dam of the licensed stallion, Caretano Z (by Caretino), who died much too early in 2001 after a brief but highly successful career as the 1997 Reserve Bundeschampion, 1999 World Champion of 7-year old show jumpers, and a World Cup Finalist in Gothenberg, Sweden. She also gave birth to Contendro’s full sister, BB Caretana, ridden by Niklaus Schurtenberger of Switzerland, a highly successful international show jumping mare. In 2003, Bravo gave birth to Contendro I's full brother Contendro II, her third licensed son, and in 2008 her fourth, the Holstein Verband stallion, Cassito (by Cassiano). The granddam, Ofarim, is the dam of a licensed stallion named Conteur (by Contender) who qualified for the championships for 7 to 8 year old developing dressage horses, the Nürnberg Burg Pokal. Her daughter Evita XII (by Reichsgraf) is the dam of the licensed Caballo (by Coriano), who is successful in the US.

Contendro I is one of the best advertisements for the famous Holstein performance line 104 a. More than 30 of his sons have been licensed so far. Captain Fire, from Contendro I's very first crop, won the 2006 Bundeschampionate in the class for five year old jumpers. Charming Boy, the 2005 Champion Stallion of the Springpferdezuchtverband Oldenburg-International (OS) licensing, finished his performance test in 2006 in Neustadt/Dosse as Reserve Champion. Condiro also finished his performance test as Reserve Champion. Another son, Comte, placed second in jumping at his test, and Contendros Bube finished his test as Reserve Champion.

In the auctions, Contendro’s offspring are also exceptionally impressive. As of 2010, his offspring had sold for a total of 4.6 million Euro in Verden, the most ever for a jumper sire at the Hanoverian auctions. His son, Carlucci, sold for a top price of 280,000 Euro at the 2007 Hanoverian Spring Elite Auction, and Contendro's son, Codex One, was sold for 170,000 Euro – the highest price at the 2004 Hanoverian Elite Auction. Both stallions have gone on to be successful in the show rings and as show jumping sires.

A Contendro I daughter called Con Pleasure was the celebrated 2005 OS International Champion Mare, and the following year, her foal by Solitair sold at the 5th Oldenburg Elite Foal Auction in Vechta for a top price of 40,000 Euro. In 2006, Contendro I's daughters dominated the free jumping competitions in Verden: Cascada, Catalina, and Cortina all took first place in the classes for four year olds. In 2005, a State Premium candidate mare named Corletta won the free jumping class for three year olds.

Contendro I is present nationally and internationally through his foals. Just as an example: The Westphalian Foal Championships 2006 in Milte was won by a Contendro I colt, and at the Elite Foal Auction in Brabant, the Netherlands, Brainpower was sold for a top price of 28.000 Euro. Hundreds of Contendro’s foals have spread throughout the world through the auctions in Verden, Vechta and Münster-Handorf, selling to customers from all of Europe and abroad.
